Svaroopa Yoga is a dramatically different way of doing hatha yoga. We do the poses in a way that actually allows the body to open into the poses. We release the tightest muscles of the body from the tailbone, sacrum, waist and ribcage. Among the other distinctive differences is that every class offers two shavasanas, shavasana being the pose that offers the most relexation for the muscles and the mind. Svaroopa's name comes from Patanjali's yoga sutra that says "The moment the mind becomes quiet, then we experience the bliss of our own true self." In this style, the poses are not used as an athletic endeavor but rather, as a way to access the deeper intermal dimensions of our essential selves. As yoga was meant to be, Svaroopa Yoga is a universal practice appropriate for everyone. Svaroopa Yoga is often described as Bliss Yoga!
Ashtanga Yoga: A dynamic sequence of postures that flow into one another, ashtanga yoga creates an energizing, strength-building, and aerobic workout whose therapeutic effects purify and align the body. By synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures, internal heat is created which helps to unwind tight joints and loosen muscles. The mindful breathing of ashtanga yoga oxygenates the blood, improving circulation and increasing blood flow to the brain. The results of this powerful practice are a calm and focused mind, improved circulation, and a light and strong body. All levels of experience are welcome.
Yin Yoga is a complementary yoga practice to the more dynamic and
invigorating yoga styles that are predominant today. In Yin Yoga, floor
postures are held passively for several minutes in order to access a safe
and positive ‘stress’ on the layers of connective tissue in the body.
Physically, Yin Yoga restores and maintains the natural mobility of the
joints, primarily between the navel and the knees. Energetically, Yin Yoga
opens the body’s meridian system, which enhances the body’s energetic flow
and supports emotional equilibrium. As this practice emphasizes stillness
and silence, Yin Yoga prepares both the body and the mind for deeper
experiences in meditation.
Vinyasa Yoga is meditation in motion. During Vinyasa, the focus is to link conscious movement, breath, and intention in order to anchor the mind and reintegrate the body, mind, and emotions. This class includes creative sequences to increase strength and flexibility in the physical body, inspiring music to uplift your spirit, and ancient yogic teachings that are directly relevant in the modern world. All levels are welcome as options are provided for absolute beginners through advanced students. Leave feeling lighter, calmer, and more courageous.
Hatha Yoga: A blend of various hatha yoga styles with emphasis on certain aspects depending on the desires and capabilities of the students, incorporating a sense of ease and exertion to bring awareness to the body and the mind through mindful asana and breath.
